Teaching Philosophy
-
It is my teaching aim to develop students' interest & appreciation of music. It is my biggest priority to make piano learning an enjoyable experience to my student. I invite my students to take part in choosing the music and repertoire which they would like to learn.
I started learning piano at the age of 3 (even before I learnt English!). Music is a valuable and inseparable part of my life. It is a language and a channel to express myself. The fact that I learnt Ballet when I was 5 further integrated music into every movement and every breathe in me. I wish that my students can also enjoy music as a life-long hobby and asset in their life.

In my 5+ year of piano teaching experience, I had the privilege to teach students aged 5-18 and adult students in one-to-one and group settings. They come from different musical backgrounds (from beginner to ATCL diploma level). I am particularly interested in teaching children which I found very rewarding.
Unlike adults who are usually more independent and self-initiated learners, children need some "extra stimuli" to initiate and cultivate their interest in music. I encountered children with different characteristics and needs who require different strategies and approaches in teaching. I adjusted my teaching method based on the areas of interest and characteristics of children. In the past, I incorporated storytelling, drawing, singing and dancing into my teaching to arouse the interest of students.

I am a firm believer that students can perform well in exams and competition if they truly enjoy music. While I am happy to assist students in exam and competition preparation, I do not force them taking exams and competition. That might be the reason why my students generally achieved outstanding results in exams and competition.
